Vinyl, Fabric or Wood Vertical blinds
If you step into one of those home furniture stores like Home Depot or even JC Penny and browse through their window treatments section, you will soon realize that vertical blinds seem to pop up everywhere, that’s a testimony of how much vertical blinds are in demand these days. Whether your home or business is modern or traditional, vertical blinds fit right in with their streamlined, versatile simplicity. Vertical blinds are popular for very wide windows and patio doors. Besides, vertical blinds have low maintenance and very effective light control.
Choose vanes made either of vinyl (PVC) or those made of fabric. The fabric vertical blinds can be backed with vinyl for an additional price to block out more heat and cold, as well as more light.
Over the last few years, the PVC selection has grown due to manufacturing processes that can make PVC look like fabric (embossed). So you'll get the beauty and color of "fabric", with the lower price and ease of cleaning normally associated with PVC. Despite the higher price, though, fabric and PVC-backed fabric varieties remain popular.
Wood vertical blinds are not lacking behind, they have become quite popular especially among younger folks. Wood vertical blinds are mainly chosen due to their versatility and durability. Wood vertical blinds also add a feeling of warmth and coziness to your home.
Wood vertical blinds can be custom-made according to your taste. Wood vertical blinds definitely look better than traditional shutters or curtains and are also used as insulators from cold and heat.
Generally there are two different types of woods that are used for making vertical blinds. These are the ramin wood and bass wood. More people prefer bass wood, since it has a more distinctive grain, and it is stronger. However, it is more expensive than the ramin wood. In both, either a 3-inch valance or a 2-inch valance can be used at the top of the window in order to make the vertical blinds more decorative.
There are also other types of vertical blinds out there in the market which I will discuss about them in my future blog postings.
